Bringing people to Christ by Caring and Serving

Hazleton Enlarged Ministry

Representatives from United Methodist churches in Hazleton, Nuremburg, Drums, White Haven, Freeland, Conyngham, and Sugarloaf meet four times a year to discuss projects of the HEM.  These include the summer playground/day camp for children aged 3-12 at the Drums Elementary School.  In 2013, the dates are June 24 to August 8.  The children enjoy many recreational and educational activities.

Outdoor worship – Because of very hot weather last year, we held this function indoors at the Diamond United Methodist Church.  The Caribbean Steel Rhythms presented an outstanding program of religious and secular music.  Refreshments were served and a very pleasant afternoon was enjoyed.  (from HEM News)

HEM also holds a Sports/Celebrity Auction yearly at Diamond UMC.

The clothing depot has been moved from North Church Street to Diamond UMC.  It is now located in the basement and is tended to weekly by volunteers from the combined churches.  We accept clothing from yard sales and rummage sales and sort through it, hanging up the best items.  People can come to the depot and are given bags to take whatever they need.  In 2012, volunteers logged 467½ hours and served 1,754 persons.

HEM also gives out grocery certificates donated by Berger Family Dealership to be used for families in need.
